Washington — Another Power Company & A Wildfire Suit
Published October 8, 2024 at 2:17 PM · News Releases and Bulletins

Washington’s Inland Power is being sued by 62 insurance companies over damages to 240 homes and other structures from last summer’s Gray Fire near Spokane, Washington.
The fire also killed one man.
The suit was filed in Spokane County Superior Court last week. It claims Inland Power failed to maintain and properly install its electrical equipment. The 62 companies are represented by the California law firm, Berger Kahn.
Inland Power is accused of failing to turn off power lines when a red-flag weather warning was issued. The company denies being responsible for the fire. However, an investigation by the Department of Natural Resources in early 2024 said sparks from a security light on a power pole started the fire.
