As we noted in the last story, there are a scary number of wildfires burning out of control in the U.S. Three PIA Western Alliance states, Oregon, Washington and Montana have 44 fires burning out of control. That is far, far more than the other states experiencing fire combined.

The auto insurance quote firm, The Zebra looked at the most at risk cities for wildfire. Five are in the PIA Western Alliance state of California and one is in the PIA Western Alliance state of Arizona.

1. Los Angeles, California — The 90% likelihood of property damage from wildfire is higher than 85% of all cities in the U.S.

Annual home insurance premium — $2,657

2. San Diego, California — San Diego’s wildfire risk is 95% higher than the rest of the cities in the country and, like Los Angeles, San Diego is 85% more likely to see property damage from wildfire. The city does — however — have one of the lowest homeowners insurance premium rate averages on the list at $1,856 a year.

3. San Jose, California — San Jose has much in common with Los Angeles and San Diego. Some of that is because of a lot of remote areas around the city. Homeowners insurance is also lower than most on the list at $1,642.

4. Riverside, California — Wildfire property damage risk for Riverside is quite high at 95%. It’s the highest on the list. Homeowners insurance is $2,300 a year on average, lower than half the cities on this list.

5. Austin, Texas — Austin is the first non-California city on the list.

6. Phoenix, Arizona — The overall risk is higher than 85% of the cities in the U.S.

#7: San Antonio, Texas

Overall wildfire risk: 70%

Wildfire risk to property: 70%

8. Salt Lake City, Utah

Overall wildfire risk: 96%

Wildfire risk to property: 70%

Acres burned in the state: 90,417

Annual home insurance premium: $1,727

9. Sacramento, California — This is the last California city and city in the PIA Western Alliance states on the list. It has a 71% higher risk of wildfire than the rest of the nation. However, homeowners insurance is still quite low when compared to other cities on this list.

10. Orlando and Tampa, Florida (tied)

Overall wildfire risk: 89% (both)

Wildfire risk to property: 70% (both)

Annual home insurance premium: $5,832 (Orlando) and $6,797 (Tampa)
